Belki gözünüzde büyütüp kocaman bir şehir hayal edebilirsiniz. Oysa küçük bir şehirdir Dallas. Öyle sağa, sola kafa tutan kovboyları filanda yoktur açıkcası. Ama Dallası ünlendiren en önemli olay ABD'nin 35. Başkanı olan John Fitzgerald Kennedy'nin 22 Kasım 1963 yılında Elm str.in başlangıcındaki binanın 6. katından ateş edilerek Houston str.de öldürülmesidir. Hep kafama takılmıştır, acaba Elm sokağı kabusu adlı gerilim dizisi, adını bu kabus sokaktan mı almıştır diye. Bu bina şimdi "The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza" ya dönüştürülmüştür. Birde ikinci olarak Dallas dizisi vardır. Yıllarca insanları televizyona adeta yapıştıran. Bir gün yolunuz düşerse Dallasa, JFK.nin suikast'e kurban gitmiş olduğu bu caddeye gidin. Ardından'da cafeleriyle ünlü olan West End bölgesine gidin. Şayet et yemekten hoşlananlardansanız, sizler için hazırlanmış olan kocaman steak'lerden afiyetle yiyin...

You may possibly imagine it being a huge city. However, Dallas is relatively small. No more cocky cowboys walking the streets. One thing that makes Dallas notorious is the shooting from the 6th floor of the building at the intersection of Elm St. and Houston St. that killed America’s 35th President, John Fitzgerald Kennedy. I always wonered whether the name of the horror movie series had anything to do with this street name. The building has now been converted to “The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza”. I also remember the TV series that we all watched for years when you say “Dallas”. If you happen to be there someday, make sure to tour the street where President Kenneddy was assassinated. Then go to West End where there are many nice cafes, bars and restaurants. If you like meat, treat yourself with a huge steak dinner. |
